The village, considered one of the best-preserved medieval settlements, is devoted entirely to wine. Since 1967, the Stianti Mascheroni family has produced elegant, smooth wines with dedication and expertise—today using organic methods. The vineyards belonging to Castello di Volpaia lie at 450 to 600 metres above sea level, making Volpaia one of the highest-altitude wineries in the Chianti region.
