It is a family business straight out of an Italian storybook: the brothers Damonte produce quality wines on the estate founded by their father. They share a passion for wine and complement each other beautifully: Massimo is responsible for the vines, while Roberto looks after the cellar. The whole family works together to make wines from seven vineyard sites, whose characteristic mineral freshness is thanks to the typically sandy, calcareous soil.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch3\u003eThe Region\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003ePiedmont («at the foot of the mountains»), in northwestern Italy, lies along the southern foothills of the Alps. The climatic conditions are demanding: apart from the area around the Po Valley, it is considerably cooler here than in the rest of Italy. Short, dry summers give way to foggy autumns and very cold winters. Piedmont's winegrowers rise to the challenge: alongside Tuscany, Piedmont produces more of Italy's top wines than any other region, with unmistakably full-bodied, complex aromas attributable to these particular climatic conditions. The red grape variety Barbera predominates, followed by Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, which is used to make the famous Barolo.
