About Bodegas Alto Moncayo

The Bodegas Alto Moncayo winery is located in the Denominación de Origen Campo de Borja (DO, wine quality standard). In 2002, the winemakers launched the project of producing the highest quality Garnacha wines from the oldest vineyards of the local Garnacha grape variety. This project has preserved true treasures that would otherwise have disappeared. At the foothills of the Moncayo, 100 hectares of “Garnacha de Monte” were planted several decades ago, which are now processed at the winery. Everything here revolves around perfecting the Garnacha grape. This is also done excellently: thanks to aging in new barriques for between 16 and 24 months, the wines mature into an incredibly full-bodied, dense and wonderfully fruity delight. The highest quality of Garnacha wines!

The Region

The northeastern Spanish region of Aragón encompasses the wide Ebro Valley and is dominated by the Pyrenees to the north, which supply the dry valley with water. Due to this location, the wines here have great potential. Small, excellent wineries with a strong focus on quality make Aragón, with its four DO zones Cariñena, Calatayud, Campo de Borja and Somontano, increasingly interesting for wine lovers. Red Garnacha and Tempranillo are mainly grown here.
