E. Guigal Gigondas AC 2021 Red Wine – This balanced, fruity and full-bodied wine shines ruby red with violet reflections in the glass and captivates with a fairly powerful, complex bouquet of plum, black berries and dried fruit, as well as peppery nuances and lovely toasted notes of coffee and smoke. Aromatic, dry and fresh on the palate, its fruity aromas are framed by fine tannins and a rounded, harmonious structure, complemented by earthy, leathery and mineral notes.

About E. Guigal
Philippe Guigal, a highly gifted oenologist, runs the winery in Ampuis in the French Rhône Valley, founded by his grandfather Etienne. Everything here is exceptional: the location on steep slopes with their carved terraces and the barren soils, from which the vines draw water from depths of up to 15 metres. The Guigals make the most of their grapes and terroir, reflected in the top quality and small quantities. The wines are matured in barriques from the estate's own cooperage, and these magnificent wines command top prices. It is no wonder, then, that Guigal is the winery with the most wines awarded 100 points by Robert Parker.
The region
The Rhône is of great importance for winegrowing. It connects four wine-growing areas that differ greatly in terms of climate, topography and grape varieties: the northern and southern Rhône, the area in the middle around the tributary Drôme, and the area east of the southern Rhône. The north has a continental climate with harsh winters and hot summers. On steep slopes with granite-rich soils, almost exclusively Syrah—the only permitted red grape variety—and the white Viognier are grown here; the more prestigious wine-growing areas such as Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie are also located here. The south, facing the sea, benefits from a Mediterranean climate and sandy, rocky soils. Most of the wines there are blends of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, which are also used in the well-known Châteauneuf-du-Pape region.
