About Freixenet

The world's most important traditional sparkling wine brand ("Established 1861") takes its name from the ash groves in the surrounding area: Freixe means ash in Spanish. The company's stated goal is for connoisseurs to be swept away by the brand's passion and joie de vivre. The beginning of the house's unparalleled success story is marked by the marriage of Dolores Sala to her great love Pedro Ferrer Bosch. The two were an unbeatable team: Dolores was ahead of her time with detailed knowledge of winemaking, and together with Pedro's keen entrepreneurial instinct, their sparkling wines quickly gained popularity and recognition. Today, Pedro and Dolores's children and grandchildren run the family business.

The Region

Catalonia is a renowned region in northeastern Spain. The Catalans are the driving force and the greatest innovators in Spanish winemaking. For example, they were the first to produce sparkling wine in the Penedès using the Champagne method – cava still plays an important role here today. In this large wine region, you can find all the microclimates imaginable for winemaking. On the coast, the sea provides freshness and moisture, while inland it is rather dry and hot. In addition, mountain ranges with their hills and steep slopes create many exceptional terroirs, especially on limestone and clay soils. These natural conditions, combined with the ingenuity of the local winegrowers, allow a wealth of great wines to emerge.
