About Freixenet

The world's leading traditional sparkling wine brand ("Established 1861") takes its name from the ash groves in the surrounding area: Freixe means ash in Spanish. The company's stated goal is for connoisseurs to be swept away by the brand's passion and joie de vivre. The beginning of the house's unparalleled success story is marked by the marriage of Dolores Sala to her great love Pedro Ferrer Bosch. The two were an unbeatable team: Dolores was ahead of her time with her detailed knowledge of winemaking, and together with Pedro's keen entrepreneurial instinct, their sparkling wines quickly gained popularity and recognition. Today, Pedro and Dolores's children and grandchildren run the family business.

The Region

Veneto, in the local language Veneto, is one of Italy's most popular wine regions with its tourist stronghold Venice – and one of the three largest in the country. Geographically, Veneto is extremely diverse: on the one hand, a third is covered by mountain ranges, on the other hand, the region in the central plain has extensive rice fields and a large coastal strip. Accordingly, the Venetian wines are highly varied. A stony and calcareous soil covered with red and brown earth offers the vines good growing conditions, while the Alps, whose foothills border the extensive area in the north, protect the region from the harsher Northern European weather and ensure a balanced climate. In the warmer plains on the Adriatic coast, red grape varieties are predominantly grown; excellent white wines come from the cooler zones, the most famous of which is undoubtedly Prosecco.
