The monastery Grimbergen was founded in 1128 by St. Norbert.In the turbulent history of the monastery, it was destroyed four times and rebuilt.Since then, the monastery has the Phoenix as a symbol with the inscription "Ardet Nec Consumitur" - "Burned but not destroyed".In 1956, the monastery entered into an agreement with the Maes Brewery to develop various monastic beers.Maes entered into a joint venture with the Alken breweries - together they are now Alken Maes.
