The Schaffhausen wine dynasty Schachenmann produces nationally and internationally acclaimed vineyard wines in the former GVS winery, founded in 1934, using grapes cultivated and cared for by 160 winegrowing operations in the Blauburgunderland. The cooperative delights wine connoisseurs with traditional wines as well as innovative ideas. In vinification, cellar master Michael Fuchs has been utilizing a diverse range of technical possibilities since 1995 to ensure that the qualities of the grapes and the soil in which they grow are fully showcased.

The Region

The climate in Schaffhausen is continental, with relatively warm, dry summers and cool winters. Topographically, the canton can be divided into two areas: forested river valleys in the center and east, and flatter landscapes in the west along the border with Germany. Here, in the Klettgau region with its center in Hallau, lie the most important Schaffhausen winegrowing municipalities. On deep, clayey, and rather shallow, calcareous soils, mainly Pinot Noir (nearly two-thirds of the grape varieties grown are red) and Müller-Thurgau vines are grown, with the volume of wine produced being remarkable relative to the size of the canton.
