The region

In Germany, one of the world’s northernmost wine-growing regions, vines are grown mainly in the southwest of the country along the Moselle and Rhine rivers. Here, winegrowing benefits from moderately hot summers and winters that are not too cold—a climate in which Riesling vines thrive. The fresh, mineral white wines, noted for their lightness, vibrancy and fruitiness, have made Germany famous as a wine-producing country around the world.
