The Region

In the south of France, adjoining the Rhône Valley geographically, the country’s largest wine region, Languedoc, stretches along the Mediterranean coastline, with its vineyards and picturesque old stone houses. The climate is characterised by abundant sunshine, mild winters and hot summers. The vines that thrive here—mostly in limestone soils—are robust and hardy due to the region’s dry conditions. Alongside viticulture, olive growing is a major agricultural activity; olives also thrive without artificial irrigation. Languedoc is a particularly colourful region: Mediterranean flair is everywhere—in the traditional earthenware, airy fabrics and light, delicious dishes.
