About Mavrio

Mavrio wines are character wines made from the pure Negroamaro grape! They grow in Puglia, in the warm south of Italy, and are subsequently aged for several months in barriques. They then present themselves in full bloom, revealing a dark sweetness and sun-drenched aromatics. Within a short time, Mavrio has become a favorite among Swiss wine drinkers, and wine critic Luca Maroni has already honored these high-quality southern Italians with high ratings multiple times.

The Region

The southern Italian region of Puglia is one of the country's most productive wine-growing areas. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel past Lecce, Puglia stretches over 400 kilometers. The area has the most grape varieties in southern Italy, around 80 percent of which are red. A Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with layers rich in iron oxide above create perfect conditions for viticulture. The grapes ripen optimally during the dry, hot summers, and the wines become deep, dark, earthy, and full-bodied. Unlike other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains here; the landscape consists mainly of plateaus and flatlands. A wine-growing region with enormous potential – the possibilities of the countless indigenous grape varieties are far from being exhausted. Already today, Puglia offers high-quality wines of great intensity and fullness; the finest qualities among them grow on the Salento peninsula.
