About Mavrio

Mavrio's wines are character wines made from pure Negroamaro grapes! They grow in Puglia, the warm south of Italy, and are then aged in barriques for several months. Afterwards, they present themselves in full development and reveal a dark sweetness and a sun-drenched aromatic profile. In a short time, Mavrio has become a favorite among Swiss wine drinkers, and wine critic Luca Maroni has already praised the high-quality Southern Italian wines several times with high ratings.

The Region

Southern Italian Puglia is one of the most productive wine-growing regions in the country. From the spur of the boot near Foggia to the tip of the heel behind Lecce, Puglia stretches over 400 kilometers. The area has most of the grape varieties in southern Italy, around 80 percent of which are red. The Mediterranean climate and calcareous subsoils with iron-oxide-rich layers above create perfect conditions for viticulture. In the hot, dry summers, the grapes ripen optimally, and the wines become deep dark, earthy, and full-bodied. In contrast to the other southern regions, there are hardly any mountains here; the landscape consists mainly of high plateaus and lowlands. A wine-growing area with enormous potential – the possibilities of the countless autochthonous grape varieties are far from being fully exploited. Even today, Puglia offers the highest quality wines of great intensity and fullness; the finest qualities among them grow on the Salento peninsula.
