About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio

Sicily casts a spell at first sight – and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The generous expanse of land, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique scents of the island are the Sicilian ingredients behind wines made with love. They give rise to characterful wines, carefully vinified. An expression of a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through Sicily's colours and atmospheres, to the secrets of its grapes and to selected aromas that Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.

The Region

Sicily, home to Italy's largest wine-growing area, lies off the toe of the Italian boot. Its climate – intensely hot summers and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south – and geography – mountainous terrain with poor soils – make the island ideal for winegrowing. The vineyards make the most of nature's advantages: slopes with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of characterful native grape varieties. Soils vary across the island's subregions: very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate in the west. It is no wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deeply coloured, fruity wines lie on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other regions have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, they give the wines fresh mineral notes.
