About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio

Sicily captivates at first sight—and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The island’s generous land, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique aromas provide the Sicilian ingredients for wines made with love. They give rise to characterful wines, carefully vinified. They express a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through the colours and atmospheres of Sicily, to the secrets of its grapes and to selected aromas, which Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.

The Region

Sicily, home to Italy’s largest wine-growing area, lies off the tip of the Italian boot. Its climate—intense summer heat and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south—and geography—mountainous terrain with poor soils—make the island ideal for winegrowing. The region makes the most of these natural advantages: hillside vineyards with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of characterful native grape varieties. The soils vary across the island’s subregions. In the west, very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate. It is no wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deeply coloured and fruity wines are found on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other areas have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, these give the wines fresh mineral notes.
