About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio
Sicily enchants at first sight—and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The generous land, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique fragrances of the island are the Sicilian ingredients that go into wines made with love. They give rise to wines with character, carefully vinified. An expression of a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through the colours and atmospheres of Sicily, to the secrets of its grapes and to select aromas that Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.
The region
Sicily, home to Italy’s largest wine-growing region, lies off the tip of the Italian boot. Its climate—intensely hot summers and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south—and its geography—mountainous terrain with poor soils—make the island ideal for winegrowing. The vineyards take advantage of nature’s gifts: slopes with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of distinctive native grape varieties. Soils vary across the island’s subregions. In the west, very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate. It is no wonder, then, that the most sought-after sites for intense, deeply coloured, fruity wines lie on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other regions have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, these give the wines fresh mineral notes.
