About Mezzacorona – Feudo Arancio
Sicily enchants at first sight—and Feudo Arancio captures this passion. The generous landscape, mineral-rich soil, intense light and unique scents of the island are the Sicilian ingredients that go into wines made with love. They give rise to characterful, carefully vinified wines. An expression of a love that becomes a journey of discovery: through the colours and atmospheres of Sicily, to the secrets of its grapes, and to select aromas that Feudo Arancio interprets in a fresh, contemporary style.
The region
Sicily, home to Italy’s largest wine-growing area, lies off the toe of the Italian boot. Its climate—intense summer heat and little rainfall, with an African influence in the south—and its geography—mountainous terrain with poor soils—make the island ideally suited to wine-growing. The region makes the most of nature’s advantages: hillsides with excellent exposure, abundant sunshine, favourable elevations with significant temperature differences between day and night, and a whole range of distinctive native grape varieties. Soils vary across the island’s subregions: very poor soils of volcanic origin predominate in the west. It is no wonder, then, that the most prized sites for intense, deep-coloured, fruity wines are found on the slopes of Mount Etna. Other areas have sandy soils with a high iron content. Combined with an underlying layer of limestone, these give the wines fresh mineral notes.
