About Prelius

The Maremma plain in southern Tuscany is a relatively young wine region. Here, Federica Masceroni Stianti, from the renowned Chianti winemaking family behind Castello di Volpaia, has struck out on her own with the Prelius winery. She produces elegant, Mediterranean-inspired organic wines with great care and dedication. Thanks to the unique terroir—sandy sedimentary soils at just 30 to 50 metres above sea level—and the characteristic microclimate, with mild winters and hot summers, the vines ripen perfectly to produce smooth, aromatic and fruity wines.

The region

Alongside Piedmont, Tuscany is probably Italy’s most famous wine-growing region. The Etruscans cultivated vines here long before the Romans, making it one of Europe’s oldest wine-growing regions as well. In Tuscany, people speak mainly—and with justifiable pride—of world-famous Chianti and Brunello. In fact, however, Tuscany is Italy’s largest producer of top-quality wines. Blessed with abundant sunshine, cooled by sometimes strong sea breezes and still receiving enough rain, Tuscan vines produce outstanding wines on barren limestone, clay and sandstone soils, as well as various combinations of these, to the delight of wine lovers around the world.
