About Vite Colte

Tradition is highly valued at Vite Colte, but this does not prevent the Piedmontese wine producers from developing innovative concepts. Only grapes with plenty of colour and aromatic extract, well suited for ageing, reach the modern Vite Colte winery. Only high-quality DOC and DOCG wines are produced, based on small yields per hectare and rigorous selection during the harvest.

The Region

Northwestern Italy's Piemonte ("at the foot of the mountains") lies on the southern foothills of the Alps. The climatic conditions are demanding: It is significantly cooler here – apart from the Po Valley area – than in the rest of Italy. Short, dry summers are followed by misty autumns and very cold winters. A challenge that Piedmontese winegrowers meet with success: Alongside Tuscany, Piemonte produces most of Italy's finest wines with unmistakably full-bodied, multifaceted aromas, which are attributable to these special climatic conditions. The red grape variety Barbera dominates, followed by Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, from which the famous Barolo is vinified. The vines thrive between 150 and 400 m above sea level on different soils – from loamy soils for a multifaceted bouquet to lime-rich sandy soils, which promote a robust structure in the wine.
